Sketch of the Week

Here's another porch drawing, this time of a shorebird sculpture of sorts. It dangles from the porch by a thick wire. My mother found this in the barn attached to my parent's house, and it originally belonged to a family friend. The odd-looking thing behind it is a wind chime shaped like a fish skeleton.

I spent a summer in college painting mermaids, seashells, and other trite tourist art for a gift shop in Maine, but in this sketch I was more interested in shapes and value than in capturing an iconic New England critter. When I draw shells and birds these days, it's out of my own interests, not for the pleasure of tourists.
