Sketch of the Week: Hollyhocks

Hollyhocks to me are one of the quintessential flowers of quaint country gardens. I used to see them rather frequently in Maine and Vermont, and the sight of them instantly conjured images of tea, scones, and gardenside chats. It's a comforting flower to me, one that makes me think of home.

Much to my surprise and delight, I've discovered that they grow in Roswell too, both in cultivated gardens and on their own from seed. One evening, I spotted a cluster of them behind an old building, and returned a few days later with my sketchbook:
