Sketch of the Week: Gustave

On Monday I told you about a cat I recently adopted. Originally named Baby Boy, I decided that he needed a change of moniker. One friend recommended Giuseppe, another one said Bosco. In the end though, I came up with something else: Gustave.

I named him for the artist Gustave Baumann. I thought of it while playing with him one day using one of those feathered wands. The way he jumped through the air trying to get the toy reminded me of the beautiful marionettes Baumann carved, while his wild-eyed, spastic look made me think of that wonderfully wacky sculpture of his at the Museum, The Pathfinder. What can I say, I'm proud of the artists we have in the RMAC collection, so much so that I named my cat after one.
