Sketch of the Week: Pitcher

The subject of today's sketch was given to me by a friend. Measuring about two feet high, it's an unusual-looking ceramic pitcher replete with indentations, cow skulls, and a milk beard.

One night, as I was looking at the enormous vessel, I felt the urge to draw. Not with my unusual pen and ink though. No, this vessel needed something more rugged, so I pulled out my bamboo pen. This tool demands confidence and openness, but can be very expressive and freeing.

The black column in the background is actually a ceramic vessel I've made, but its sole purpose here was to provide a contrasting backdrop to the white paper. The real star here is the pitcher.
