Sketch of the Week: More digital iris

Last year I started experimenting with digital drawing through a sketch app on my phone, which I still use periodically. Here are some iris I drew last spring:

I found these iris all over town. Some were growing in the yards of people's houses, others on the lawns of churches, and some even tucked away behind city buildings. Looking back at these, I think what was most effective was the variety I could achieve in line opacity, which really helped to capture the translucent colors and textures of the iris petals. While I've returned to drawing flowers in a traditional manner this year, primarily because I have a nice new sketchbook I want to use, it's nice to know I've got more than one way to draw a pretty bloom.
