Today's sketch features Bitter Lake:
Bitter Lake is an important place to me because it lets me escape downtown Roswell and get into the natural world relatively quickly. Though I consider myself an urban person, I've also found that I need to be able to access nature to be happy and to get away from myself.
Given its importance to me, I don't sketch this beautiful area as often as I should, but this time I'd had enough foresight to bring my sketchbook with me. I've gotten interested in the woodcuts of Gustave Baumann recently (A Printmaker You Should Know, and will know in a future post) so I was imagining translating this scene into a multi-block color linocut. It'd be a lot of work, but it might be fun. Maybe.
