Those who follow this blog will know that I'm a fan of Bottomless Lakes, and that I enjoy sketching there. Most of the time I focus on rocky precipices and other dramatic formations, but in this sketch, I was watching ducks:
The pond I was sketching had this wondrous silvery quality to it that day, and I found the black dots of the ducks strewn about aesthetically pleasant. I was drawing this not so much as a landscape per se, but as an abstract composition, where subtle color and dots mingle to create a pleasing whole, regardless of the original subject matter.
