This is a sketch from 2007, when I was studying in Florence. While I was there, I took a day trip to Siena, visiting the famous Cathedral, St. Catherine's head, and other delights. During my time at the cathedral (or Duomo), I visited its museum, where I found plenty of elaborate reliquaries. Several, such as this one, still had their relics.
I was baptized Catholic, but I'll admit I've never quite understood the cult of saints. Oh, I've read about it, and it was the subject of at least one paper in college, but it's never spoken to me on an emotional level. To each his or her own though, so if you get it, by all means embrace it.
