Sketch of the Week: Abstracted Seed Stem

What you're looking at here is the abstracted stem of a sycamore seed stem. The round form in the background is the actual seed itself. I was playing with scale in this drawing, imagining the stem as a tree and the seed ball as the sun in the sky. I was thinking about doing a relief print with this, but the idea of carving all the seedlings on the ball dissuaded me. I like the composition itself though, so I may recreate it in another medium.
