One of Roswell's lesser-known feats is that a natural feature in the area, Bitter Lake, is a prominent bird sanctuary. I've seen at least half a dozen different types of ducks and other water-loving birds out there, from shovelers to harlequins, not to mention the huge flocks of snow geese, and of course, sandhill cranes.
Watching these birds fly in en masse in a synchronized fashion is nothing short of awe-inspiring, but if you want to see a crane up-close, you can always go to the local zoo, which I did here:
