Sketch of the Week: African masks

When I arrived at the Dallas Museum back in 2010, one of the exhibits on view was African Masks: The Art of Disguise. It was an exploration of masking and identity transformation as both ritual and intellectual concept, and featured a variety of masks from various cultures. since the DMA has an outstanding collection of African art, the exhibit provided the opportunity to highlight some of these holdings.

Shortly before the show closed, I took a walk down to the gallery and sketched a few of the objects on view.
