Sketch of the Week: Pretty in Pink

While sketching a bouquet a few months ago, I changed my drawing approach. Usually I dive right in with pen and ink, but the colors often get muddied once I add paint. This time, I sketched the forms in with pencil, then painted them in. Only then did I go in with the pen for lines and washwork.

Here's the result:

I only wish I'd done this on better-quality paper and treated this as a finished drawing, as I ended up being rather pleased with the outcome.
