My mother has a lot of cool houseplants, spanning different colors, shapes, and textures. During a recent holiday vacation in Maine, I was particularly taken with her oxalis, between its triangular leaves and deep maroon color, so I sketched part of it on my phone one late afternoon. The oxalis moves in rhythm with the day, with its leaves opening and closing in sync with the movement of the sun, so by the time I had finished drawing, the plant had closed shop for the night. I'd like to incorporate the shapes here into some print in the future, I just don't know how yet.
