The prickly pear is ubiquitous in the Southwest, one of those plants you get so accustomed to seeing that you forget to draw them. This cactus was drawn from memory and is about as typical as they come, but it's the location of this particular specimen that makes it special to me.

Woodbury, our neighborhood had a plant exchange and I was very surprised to discover that cactii cuttings grow roots when buried and watered. -DAC
