The deserts of the Southwest are replete with bizarre plants uniquely adapted to these often unforgiving environments, but one of the strangest to me is the ocotillo. Not a true cactus but covered in thorns reminiscent of one, this spindly plant reminds me of octopi and other sea creatures.
There are a few ocotillos in town in bloom at the moment, so I took the opportunity to draw one after an evening walk.
