Today's sketch features two friends of mine, if you count inanimate objects among your companions:
The dragon has been featured here previously, but the carnival mask has also appeared in some of my earlier work. Here are a couple of charcoal drawings I did in 2008, between college and graduate school. These more finished works took about a week, as opposed to the sketch above which took about forty minutes at most.
I don't work with charcoal as much these days, but the mask remains a great object that lends itself to dramatic lighting effects, so it's always fun to pull it out and draw it now and then.
